One-time setting
Erecting a block, even a 400-tonne mega-block, in a single setting because accuracy was held upstream.
Accuracy is the precondition of flow. A line that cannot hold its dimensions cannot flow, because every deviation passed downstream becomes recutting, build-up and delay at the next station.
At Okpo the manual gas-cutting torches were removed from the curved-block shop so that every recut became visible. Later the accuracy-control team was given full authority never to erect an out-of-accuracy block in the dock. It took three years, and then even 400-tonne mega-blocks dropped into place in a single setting.
“精度 is 正道. Precision of dimension is kept only by walking the correct path of work.”
